Dr. Hayes graduated with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1979 from Iowa State University located in Ames, Iowa. He practiced in Wisconsin performing large animal veterinary functions in a multi-person practice specializing in Dairy.
In 1983, he left practice to develop his nutrition and management skills by working for a mineral vitamin premix company in the Midwest. He held various roles in this organization focusing on the technical support and product development activities until he was appointed General Manager. Steve's role ended when the company was purchased and merged with another feed company in 1995. |
Steve spent almost 2 years as General Manager for a local cooperative before joining Milk Products in 1997 as their Technical Services Manager where he provided technical support and sales activities for their private label milk replacer customers. Steve has always had a special place in his heart for the replacement heifer and this position would allow him to focus entirely on this part of agriculture.
During his tenure, he was involved with the University of Minnesota Southern Research and Outreach Center located in Waseca, MN doing various research projects and assisting calf raisers and companies develop sound calf management practices. He helped to develop many highly successful product lines that are being sold today with great success.
In 2007, Steve left Milk Products to join APC located in Ankeny, IA. APC is a major producer of functional proteins in the United States. His role at APC allowed Steve to continue to develop his research skills and improve his knowledge of calf health and products that can influence calf performance.

June of 2009 is when Steve decided to create DAY 1® Technology, LLC. This organization will allow Steve to pursue his dreams of improving calf health and well being through independent consulting with calf operations and product development.
